As a dedicated member of the Board of Education, Pete McCann has a proven track record of delivering meaningful results for the West Islip community. Pete played a pivotal role in saving the Masera School from being sold and was instrumental in creating the new, fully BOCES-funded Masera Middle School. Pete also established the West Islip Pre-K Program, giving our youngest learners a strong foundation for future success. Under his leadership, the district invested in fully air-conditioning all school buildings, expanded Special Education classes, and launched comprehensive literacy programs at every grade level.

Committed to student and staff well-being, Pete expanded mental health support services and significantly increased school safety by placing armed guards in every building.​​
Recognizing the importance of career and technical training, He expanded Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings in welding, business, and education. These initiatives ensure that students can access various pathways to success, whether pursuing higher education or entering the workforce.

​​Financial responsibility has also been a hallmark of Pete’s service. He has consistently delivered balanced budgets with less than 2% tax increases. Through strong leadership, community advocacy, and a forward-thinking approach, Pete McCann continues strengthening West Islip’s schools and securing a bright future for all students.
