Christina Marks, Juris Doctor

Christina is the proud mother of two children—one currently a freshman at Hofstra University and another in 10th grade—both of whom have been part of the West Islip school community since Kindergarten. As a longtime resident and parent, Christina has a deep, personal understanding of the needs, challenges, and aspirations of West Islip families.

Elected to the Board of Education in 2023, Christina has strongly advocated for prioritizing Special Education services and expanding mental health support throughout the district, despite ongoing budget pressures. She is equally passionate about creating opportunities that empower students to succeed beyond high school, whether through advanced academic coursework that can earn college credits or through trade programs that offer real-world skills and industry certifications. Christina believes every student deserves access to programs that open doors to a bright and prosperous future, regardless of their path.

As West Islip faces enrollment shifts and space constraints, Christina is focused on thoughtful, forward-looking solutions. She believes that West Islip can turn these challenges into opportunities with a thorough review of all available options, strong advocacy for increased state funding, and meaningful engagement with parents, students, and community stakeholders. Her goal is to enhance the educational experience for all students, ensuring that every child is supported, every voice is heard, and every opportunity is pursued to make West Islip schools stronger for generations to come.

Christina Marks attended college at SUNY New Paltz, graduating magna cum laude in 2000 with a B.A. in Sociology, concentration: Social Work. During this time, she held several internships and employment geared towards interacting with, facilitating and supporting different populations of learners. These included students with Individualized Education Plans as well as students with 504 accommodations, allowing me to develop an understanding of the IEP process and the needs of varied leveled learners.

Christina’s major accomplishment was fighting to keep the AP & Supa classes intact at the HS. She has been an active PTA member for the past 15 years, and has served on the Executive Board for both Bayview PTA and Beach Street Middle School PTA, including as former President.

She is the proud recipient of the NYS PTA Honorary Life Membership award (2020) and the Distinguished Service Award in February 2023.

Focused on students of today and tomorrow, Christina will continue delivering smart investments and real results for West Islip families.
